What is the role of lip liner?

right, im just getting into make up and was wondering... what is the role of lip liner... i heard on tv that it is to stop feathering however i have no idea what this means...

are there any other reasons for the use of lip liner with lipstick?

thanksWhat is the role of lip liner?
Lip liner defines your lips and helps keep your lipstick on longer. You can also fill in your lips with the liner as a nice matte base before applying your lipstick. It keeps your lipstick in place as your body heat 'melts' it, and also, if you're drinking something, you'll still have color even if some lipstick comes off on the glass/straw if you used the liner as a base. Liner also helps create the illusion of fuller lips if you have thin lips, or thinner lips if you think your lips are too full. If your lips are thin, apply the liner just outside your natural lipline (don't go too far or you'll just look like a clown!). If you think your lips are too full, apply the liner just inside your natural lipline. If you're fine with your lips, just trace your natural lipline. : )

Also, always apply the liner with short, feathering strokes, starting in the middle and working your way to each side on the top lip and just tracing from corner to corner on the bottom. Hope I helped! : )What is the role of lip liner?
well, it is supposedly to make your lips look more prominent, and bigger, more pouty, but I've heard on what not to wear, carmendy says that you should never wear lip liner, so I don't wear it, but it also depends how old you are.
hi, one of the roles of the lip liner is to make sure your lipstick doesn't bleed and smudge around your mouth, also lip liners tend to give shape to lips whether you have big/small lips and its important to choose the closest lip liner shade possible to your lipstick. personally i never apply lipstick with out my lip liner. i hope this helps. :)
lip liner is like a primer, its a guideline not to go over the line when applying your lipstick. Its referred to as reducing a ';bleed'; of lipstick when you've just applied your colour and you want it to stay on the lip not make you look like a clown with it on your face. Sometimes you opt for a nude colour so it doesnt show through your lipstick, or you can wear a more bold lip liner so it contrasts with your shade of lipstick.
my lipliner is always my skin tone its maybelline nude shimmer. basically it stops your lipstick from smudging out of your lips.
The role of the lip liner is 2 line ur lips....
Feathering is another term for 'bleeding'. Both of these terms refer to when the lipstick reacts to heat and somewhat melts past the lip line itself onto the skin. I am an Avon representative and my suggestion for applying good lip colour is to first moisturise (even your lips need a good base) and then apply the lip liner (make sure it is a neutral tone that will match your lipstick) and then fill in with the lippie. Have fun! The trick is that your lip liner should NEVER be darker than your lipstick!
To make you look like coco the clown when the lipstick wears off as far as i can see
Lip liner is meant to give more definition to the lips and to make the lips appear more full. Sometimes, I will use lip liner and then color my lips in with the liner as a lipstick...then, follow with a lip gloss. This way, when it wears off, you won't have a ';ring'; around your lips. The best thing to do is to blot your lipliner on a tissue so it won't be too harsh. Good luck.
