I'm not sure how to pick a shade of lip liner or how to put it on.?

It always looks crooked when i do it.I'm not sure how to pick a shade of lip liner or how to put it on.?
Lip liner is not necessarily 'out'. Of course the heavily lined lip is not attractive at all. Go with a shade that is close to the shade of lipstick or the natural shade of your lip color if you're only going with a gloss. A lot of lip liners come in pencil form and that's okay as long as you blend it with a lip brush. As far as technique in application, just keep a steady hand and follow the line of your lip. Lip liners are great at keeping your lipstick from 'bleeding' by creating a barrier. Good luck!I'm not sure how to pick a shade of lip liner or how to put it on.?
Just Follow The Outside Line On Your Lips.
If you choose to use lip liner, make it discreet, and use any color, just not too dark colors, like dark brown.
My best advice is to dodge the lipliner. If applied incorrectly or a wrong colour is chosen ,you'll end up looking like a draq queen.

But if your lip shape is uneven chose one a shade lighter than yourlip surface or even the exact same colour.

Try applying it with a steady han.
Lip liner goes in and out of fashion all the time, and is totally not necessary. But if with the look you're going for, you really want to use liner, don't worry about if others think it's cool. Personally, I don't think being Trendy is cool.

The point of a liner is to contain the lip color and give it a more defined look. Some make-up people say to match your liner with your lip color. It's a little easier and more natural looking if you find a liner that matches YOUR lip color.

To apply, start at the center of the edge of your top lip and draw to the corner of your mouth. Repeat for the other side of your top lip. Now, you can do the same for your bottom lip, or draw one smooth line from corner to corner. The trick is to keep your natural size and shape. Don't try to draw Angeline Jolie's lips or you might end up looking more like a clown.

Next, apply your lip color, and finish with a gloss if desired.

If you're new to this, you might want to practice for a while before wearing it in public. Or you might just decide that it's not really your style and go without. Either way, good luck!
Ok, pick a lip liner that is a bit lighter than your lip colour. If you're going for something really intense, like red, try to get it close, but not much darker. Put it on first and smudge it just a bit towards the inner part of the lip. It SHOULD NOT go outside the natural lip line. It does not make lips appear fuller; it makes you look like Tammy Fay. Start at the center of the lip and work your way outwards. Just use a gentle hand and it should go on smoothly. Higher end liners will be easier to apply, but if you're feeling a bit broke, try Revlon (Annabelle if you're in Canada!). After that, put on gloss or lipstick and you're done!
Lip liner is out. Buy the lipfinity. It's great. Stays on all day. It gives you the look of a nice liner.
i actually did a make-up session with one of the bobbi brown artists at nordstroms a while back and they told me a couple things regarding lips, lip liner, etc.

1) not all women need lip liner. If you have fairly well defined lips, you probably don't need it. However, lipstick or lip gloss tends to feather off your lips, you should wear lip liner to keep it in place.

2) lip liner should be as close to the color of your lips as possible. think of it as foundation make-up for your lips. its sole purpose is to lock in lip color. They used a nude colored lip liner on my lips and showed me lip gloss in a dark color and a lighter shade it it was great. And as time wore on through out the day, you didn't get that nasty halo effect when your color wore off.

As far as how to apply it, i usually just trace right around the edge my lips, not the inside, not the outside, but right on the line. Then fill in, apply lip color.
Choose colors that match the natural shade of your lips, opting for darker tones that complement your overall coloring. Matte lipsticks offer a muted finish complementary to workday makeup, while satin and gloss finishes offer appealing evening looks.Begin by dabbing on a very small amount of lip balm or petroleum jelly to give your lips a little moisture.Draw a thin line along the edge of your lips with a lip liner whose color is one shade darker than your lipstick. Start at the center of the upper lip and work outward. Hug the very outer edges to open up thin lips, and line well within the edges to downplay excessively full lips.
Lip liner is so 90s. I don't think anyone looks good in lip liner. Just wear lip gloss.
If you have trouble putting it on why bother ? Just put a gloss or a balm
